Archive Footage Reuse
The film’s core technique: authentic archival footage - retrieved, enhanced, and composited with AI-generated elements - rather than fully synthetic imagery. The hybrid pipeline is explicit in the Agent Production Bible: “This production is NOT fully AI-generated.”
How it shows up
- Archive layer (Scenes 1-4 backgrounds) comes from the ARC pipeline: AGT-016 retrieves era-authentic footage, AGT-019 enhances (upscale, stabilize, inpaint), AGT-011 era-matches color.
- RAI archive records are the named archive source (rai-archive-records): Route 66 documentaries (Kilimangiaro, TG2 Si Viaggiare, TG3 1900) and space news (Tg3 Artemis II, Speciale TG1 Moon history).
- On-disk home-movie “Our Trip of U.S.A. Part Two” (6403-our-trip-of-usa) is the family-road-trip layer - the “then vs now” companion to the RAI material (medium confidence on its exact cut placement).
- The space thread (artemis-ii) pairs with the road: “one small crawl” vs “one small step”.
Why it matters
- Provenance: every layer tagged asset_origin; the production can show archive licensors the unmodified plate and the separate AI layers.
- Legal defensibility and IBC Accelerator transparency requirements.
- The “Ship of Theseus” enhancement ratio (bible 6.3) guards how much of an archive frame may be altered before it stops being “the archive”.
Notes
- Era character is applied in post, never baked into generation (era-locked-look).
